Sustainable Startups Invited to Surf Coast Pitch Party
Ripple Surf Coast hosts a Sustainable Startup Pitch Party, giving local startups access to leading Australian investors.
On Thursday, May 26th local startups within Victoria’s Surf Coast region, will get the opportunity to pitch to some of Australia’s leading Venture Capital funds, including Giant Leap VC and Intervalley Ventures, as part of Ripple Surf Coast’s Sustainable Startup Pitch Party.
Selected startups will pitch their business to a notable selection panel including Rachel Yang from Giant Leap VC, Simon Wright from Intervalley Ventures, Phoebe Gardner from Bardee, Simon Loone from Surf Coast Shire Council, and Andrew Davies from B Lab Australia & NZ, who is representing B Corporation. Startup Victoria, Australia’s largest startup community with over 60,000 people in its network, has also thrown their support behind the initiative and will play a pivotal role in the selection process of applicants and the training of startups, as well as facilitating the pitch.
The Surf Coast has been the catalyst for a number of business success stories, including Rip Curl, which was founded in 1969 and sold to Kathmandu for $350 million in 2019, as well as Quicksilver, which today is the world’s leading outdoor sports lifestyle company. Rachel Yang from Giant Leap VC said the world’s most pressing problems need innovative solutions now, particularly when it comes to our environment.
“These solutions can come from anywhere and everywhere, including from within our local and regional communities, so it’s important to bring founders, investors and the community together to showcase what can be done,” she said. Ripple Surf Coast was founded during the 2020 lockdown with the aim of creating and executing impact events in the Surf Coast region and beyond. The Pitch Party is Ripple Surf Coast’s second event for 2022, following the successful B Corp Breakfast – Business as a force for good, which was held in March.
Applications for the Sustainable Pitch Party close on Monday, May 9th with startups to undergo a training session with Startup Victoria on Monday, May 16th. Six successful startups will be selected to pitch their ideas to the panel on May 26th.
The two winning startups will receive a startup pack valued at over $6,000 including one-on-one mentoring with Rachel Yang and Simon Wright, among other perks including legal support and co-working space.
