Tech Lead

Job description

Who we are

Wandora is a platform that gives booking based businesses (starting with tourism operators) the tools to deliver a great digital experience, helping them fight back against greedy third-party marketplaces and booking sites (think Shopify meets MrYum). We’re a VC backed early-stage startup with an ambitious roadmap of products and features that offer exciting technical challenges and huge growth potential.

You’ll have plenty of ownership and the ability to contribute to the roadmap and direction of the business as we expand around Australia and into global markets. As a founding developer on the team (one of our first hires), you’ll be working closely with our founder Dan who has many years of experience in design and product, including leading teams at Expedia in London. This is a unique opportunity to define your own role and get in on the ground floor of an exciting startup with juicy technical challenges.

What you’ll do

  • Build scalable, production quality web apps, integrations and tools for our internal operations and customers.
  • Drive our engineering strategy, documentation and testing processes.
  • Improve and optimise our tech stack over time. Current stack includes React, Node.js, MongoDB, Express, Tailwind and Sanity.io.
  • Champion code quality, transparency, innovation and a customer focus.
  • Identify, create and automate workflows and team processes (agile, continuous deployment).
  • Collaborate closely with the founder and other team members on product decisions and processes, helping think through UX and strategic challenges.
  • Start hands-on with the option to scale a team around you as we grow.
  • Help build a product-led culture that embraces challenges and new technologies.

Who you are

  • Proficient engineer with a well-rounded software and web engineering background.
  • Love working the full stack, from UI to database and deployment.
  • Have worked with a wide breadth of frameworks and languages and understand browser Javascript (including the DOM).
  • Well-versed in building APIs, architecting scalable cloud-native applications and familiar with AWS and/or similar cloud platforms.
  • Take pride in creating elegant and beautiful solutions that improve users’ lives.
  • Enjoy working with people of all backgrounds and experience levels and can confidently break down tricky topics for novice audiences.
  • Care about quality, documentation and clean code but can balance that with the need to move quickly when testing new products.
  • Excited about what we’re building and interested in shaping a company and culture from the early days.

The perks

  • Remote and flexible working arrangements that suit your lifestyle
  • Share options in a VC backed startup with global ambitions
  • Generous holiday and leave entitlements, including regular paid wellness days
  • Paid time off to volunteer or contribute to your local community
  • Dedicated learning and development budget
  • ..and more benefits to come!

Good to know

This is a salaried position, but, like most early-stage startups, the initial salary is nothing to write home about. So instead, we offer share options and generous leave to founding team members to balance the risk until our next fundraising round when salaries increase. We are keen to welcome anyone excited by the opportunity to the team and are happy to talk through our fundraising plans in person.

Wandora celebrates differences

We’re proud to be building a culture of mutual respect, inclusivity and diversity. We encourage first nations people, people of colour, LGBTQI+ and gender diverse people, parents and individuals with disabilities to apply. Feel free to note your pronouns, or let us know how we can adjust the application process to make you comfortable and successful.****

We encourage you to apply if this role excites you; even if you think you may not meet the qualifications, we would still love to hear from you.
