Melbourne Silicon Beach December Pitch Night

You are invited to come and mingle with startup founders and future founders at the monthly gathering of the largest Silicon Beach community in Australia, Melbourne Silicon Beach. Did you know that anyone can do a 90 second pitch at a Silicon Beach Pitch Night? Yes, it’s an open mic night for startups. You can even pitch an idea to have it validated. Or pitch for a co-founder, techie or anyone else. Or pitch yourself - if you have something to offer the startup community - like your tech, business, marketing, mentoring skills.

Pitch X Night: The Final Countdown

For the grand finale Pitch X for 2018, we’re thrilled to be teaming up with Melbourne Silicon Beach, YBF Ventures, and TwoSpace to present this mega pitch night! Together, we’re on a mission to help connect, motivate, and grow startups. Bringing together experts from across the startup landscape, our amazing judges will provide entrepreneurs and the startup community with the perfect pitching platform. Pitch X is a friendly pitching competition open to anyone who wants to pitch for a co-founder, investor, mentor, support, or just practice. We encourage everyone to do a 90 seconds pitch where you’ll need to answer key questions: - What problem are you tackling? - What solution are you creating? The pitch Pitch how you want, however, you may want to include the following; - Intro yourself and/or your team - Talk about the problem you’re solving - Reveal your solution - Tell the judges what stage your startup is at and what traction you’ve received - What you’re pitching for? Support, funding, resources etc The night Round one: Anyone can put their hand up to pitch on the night. The first round will consist of one-minute pitches. Our Judges will choose the top three pitches to progress to the 2nd round. Round two: For the second round, finalists will have five minutes to pitch. SPARK Accelerator Demo Day

We are thrilled to invite you to the SPARK Deakin 2018 Accelerator Demo Day! Our teams have been working hard to tackle challenges in industries from healthcare to the shared economy to cakes (yes, cakes!). They have taken major steps forward with their startups – testing, selling, listening, pivoting and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. At SPARK, we work to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs. We do this by supporting them with education, introducing them to the right people at the right time, providing guidance through mentorship and seed funding. Our Demo Day will see the teams pitch their start-ups. They will share their vision as well as their progress. It’s an evening to celebrate achievements and hard work. Come along and ->Immerse yourself in the startup scene ->Learn what startups are all about - maybe you’ll catch the startup fever too ->Be blown away with pitches from our teams Connect with founders as well as other likeminded business community folk across Deakin and Melbourne’s startup community. After the Accelerator teams pitch, we will have the chance to connect with one another over drinks and canapés.

Pitch Night: Female Founders

In our final event of 2018, we’ll be rounding off the year with a Pitch Night showcasing Female Founders! We’ll be bringing together the best and brightest to support the next generation of female founders, and provide them with a platform to pitch their startups and promote their businesses.

According to Startup Muster, the share of female founders in Australia grew from 16.1% to 25.4% in the three years between 2014 and 2017. We want to see that number increase by even more in the next three years.

So this December, One RoofMYOB, and Startup Victoria will come together to shine the spotlight on women-led businesses that are empowering the startup community. We usually have 4 startups pitch at these nights, but this time we’ll have 10. The startups will not only be pitching for the prize package below; they will also be pitching to a panel of expert judges and a room full of industry professionals.

The event will be an opportunity to network and connect with founders, investors and innovators within the community, and provide a night of inspiration for aspirational founders.

Pitch Night: FinTech

FinTech is a rapidly expanding Australian industry, and encompasses lending, personal asset management, payments software, crowdfunding, and much more. In 2017, the Startup Muster report found that FinTech was the most popular industry for Australian founders, and in Victoria is establishing itself in the field, with organisations like Stone & Chalk and YBF Ventures establishing FinTech hubs along with state government support. In the lead up to Intersekt Festival, Startup Victoria is proud to partner with FinTech Australia and Square to bring you this pitch night where we will showcase four up-and-coming startups that are looking to impact and shape the FinTech industry. The startups will not only be pitching for the prize package below; they will also be pitching to a panel of expert judges and a room full of industry professionals.

Ballarat Pitch Coaching Workshop with Nick Crocker

Thanks to the support of LaunchVic, Startmate is hosting Regional Pitch Coaching Workshops to help founders hone their pitch. The workshops are free. The workshops are hosted by Blackbird Ventures partner and Startmate EiR, Nick Crocker. Nick was previously co-founder of Sessions (acqd. by MyFitnessPal) and We Are Hunted (acqd. by Twitter) and has funded and raised funding for multiple successful ventures. The pitch coaching workshops cover: • What is an investor pitch? • What is the ideal format and length? • How to structure a one-liner. • What are the key elements of the pitch - problem, solution, team, timing, traction and ask. • Best practices for deck design and flow. • Common mistakes and how to avoid them. • What not to include in the pitch! • Example slides from successful pitch decks. • Live review of founder decks for immediate feedback. The workshops held to date have had exceptional feedback with founders rating them 9.1/10 on average. This is an awesome opportunity to learn from a serial founder and investor how to craft the best possible story for your startup. Places are limited and have been oversubscribed in the past. Pitch Night: Impact

Calling all founders! This September Startup Victoria will be partnering with Giant Leap Fund to find four impact startups who fuse profit with purpose. We're looking for founders to pitch on the night across industries including: healthtech, edtech, agtech, cleantech, fintech, and HR tech. If this sounds like you or someone you know, we’d love you to get in touch. ‘Impact startups’ are commercially minded businesses driving positive social or environmental change, such as:

  • Sendle – Australia’s only carbon neutral delivery service helping Australian small businesses thrive through parcel delivery that is simple, reliable and affordable.
  • Your Grocer – An online platform connecting consumers with local, independent shops.
  • Switch Automation – A smart building platform, improving building efficiency and delivering exceptional occupant experiences.

Create @ Alibaba Cloud Startup Contest

This month we're proud to be partnering with Alibaba Cloud and City of Melbourne to bring you the Australia and New Zealand chapter of the Create@Alibaba Cloud Startup Contest, a global series of contests for global entrepreneurs in the technology field.
