Fireside Chat with Joel Pennington

SPARK Deakin welcomes from Texas, entrepreneur Joel Pennington.

Joel is joining us at Deakin Downtown for a Fireside Chat about his experiences as a founder of multiple start-ups, including ClearAccess (acquired by Cisco Systems in Q2’12) and his most recent venture Blackdot.

In his career, Joel has held executive positions in Sales, Business Development, and Marketing. Post acquisition, Joel was the Head of Global Sales for Cisco’s Connected Home and was able to successfully mainstream ClearAccess’ technology into Cisco. Most recently Joel has been focused on accelerating Cisco’s growth in the industrial cyber-security market. Today Joel is providing custom wines through his social impact project (Slow Turtle) as well as helping a variety of companies take their IoT businesses to the next level.

Prior to ClearAccess, Joel spent over 10 years based in Australia, Europe and the US holding various roles in business advisory firms and companies in the Telecom industry. While in Australia Joel held a management position in BearingPoint’s Australian practice focused on the development and growth of alliances with strategic software and hardware vendors. Prior to BearingPoint, Joel served as an initial member of Jetstream Communication’s EMEA sales team based in London. Joel began his telecommunications career in the US with Nortel Networks where he was selected to participate in Nortel’s Leadership Development Program.

Joel is an Ambassador for the Broadband Forum and holds a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Clemson University in addition to a Masters in Commercial Law and an MBA from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia.
